“Hold On” is a reworking of the 2011 hit “Somebody That I Used to Know,” with official songwriting credits going to Walter De Backer and Luiz Bonfá. The single was accompanied by a music video featuring Justin Bieber and Christine Ko.

The song “Hold On” charted at number ten in the United Kingdom. The album reached number six in Australia and was certified gold. In New Zealand, it reached number seven. “Hold On” reached number two in Denmark, number six in Malaysia, Singapore, number seven in Norway, number eight in Ireland, and number nine in Belgium on national record charts.

Bieber performed “Hold On” at his Tiny Desk Concert on March 17, 2021, which was broadcast live online. The next day, he performed the song with a backing band on The Late Late Show with James Corden, framed by a green screenshot of a winding lane. On March 22, Bieber performed it on Good Morning America, where he “rocked the distanced GMA stage, jumping around and playing off his band’s energy,” according to Vulture’s Justin Curto. He released the official Vevo Live performance for “Hold On” three days later, which took place in a deserted forest in Los Angeles with red mood lighting and green and white lightning. Bieber was accompanied by two guitarists, a keyboardist, and a live drummer as he “dance[d] and [ran]” during the performance. He performed the song on Big Brother Brasil on May 2nd.
