FeaturedVid Jun 07

Anyone meditating in Buddhism does not attempt to communicate with angels or any other supernatural force. Neither does that person attempts to enter a hypnotic state. In its broadest sense, meditation is a method of gaining control of the mind so that it becomes calm and concentrated, and the meditator becomes more conscious.

The practise of training your mind is known as meditation, in which you concentrate and redirect your thoughts regularly. As more people become aware of the many health benefits of meditation, its popularity is increasing. It will assist you in becoming more aware of yourself as well as your surroundings. Many people believe it will help them relax and concentrate better. It can be used to develop other positive emotions and behaviours, such as a positive mindset and outlook, self-discipline, better sleep habits, and even pain tolerance. Meditation involves both the body and the mind. Matthieu Ricard has been dubbed the “happiest person on the planet.” Ricard, the Dalai Lama’s French interpreter, has been proclaimed the happiest man ever by neuroscientists in the United States.

He sacrificed a privileged life in Paris and the prospect of a distinguished career as a genetic scientist to study Buddhism in India as a young man. He’s now applying the scientific rigour he learned as a child to research into how meditation and pleasure can help the brain function better. In this interview with Emily Kasriel for Heart and Soul, he discusses his decision to become a monk, what happiness is, and how we can all achieve it.
