(client + report) From Synth Pop To Classic Steinway
Gio Nation & Evan Main Express There Passion For Piano.
The piano is among the most popular musical instruments, often referred to as the musicians favorite. Bartolomeo Cristofori, an Italian instrument maker, is credited with developing the piano, which has since then become a major instrument in western music.
Gio Nation & Evan Main set out to record & perform a single using this very instrument in it’s most natural & raw form. In doing so they created a beautiful new interpretation of the track “You Know What I’m Talkin’ Bout”.
These two musicians could not have come from different backgrounds. Gio is a self taught, play-by-ear singer/producer from Los Angeles. He typically utilizes layered nostalgic keyboard synthesizers in structured arpeggiated patterns. Evan is a critically acclaimed jazz musician with a degree in Jazz Studies, born & raised in Indiana. Evan typically prefers an acoustic Steinway to a express a more free improvisational style. However, the two are united in their passion for the instrument & willingness to experiment with new genres, leading to their recent collaboration.
See for yourself! In the featured video, where Evan discusses his creative process & recent collaboration with Gio Nation.
What makes improvisational piano so unique? The piano is a remarkable instrument in terms of flexibility and variety. The piano offers a variety of tones that can be used in practically any genre of music and fit in nicely, if done appropriately. Most instruments can only play four octaves at most; but the piano can play eight octaves which allows for a wider range. This allows musicians to play a wide variety of styles, from gloomy and stormy to sweet and adorable. The sky is the limit as these two rising artists explore the possibilities of their unique perspectives.
