How To

What Are Transition Effects And When To Use Them?

FeaturedVid May 13

These days, you would barely find a video that is shot in a single take. With the availability of advanced video editing techniques. Most videos today are built of a number of separate shots that are then merged together to form the full video.

In most cases, video editors must discover creative methods to integrate one shot with the next one in a way that advances the plot and directs the audience from one scene to the next. Generally, when filmmakers want to combine two shots together, they make use of a basic cut, in which the second shot is shown immediately after the first without any special effect.

But there may be cases when the director wishes to bounce between tales or time, or switch to a different point of view suddenly. In such cases it is important to signal the audience about the change, otherwise, they may get confused. It is at this point that video transitions are beneficial. In video editing, a video transition is a method that connects the shots of a film or video sequence. You can think of them as special animated graphics that merge the two shots together. Thus instead of seeing the second shot instantly after the first, the audience will see a graphical effect between them.

Transitions are most effective when we need to demonstrate the passage of time or a change in mood, subject, or point of view. There are many fancy transitions available these days. However, keep in mind that the most important part of any video is its content quality. Thus there is no need to distract the viewer with distracting effects or transitions. So keep your transitions simple and use them only when necessary.
